Let us learn word problems involving fractions. Fraction problems are word problem that involving with fraction. That is nothing but part of a whole. Fractions having two parts that is numerator and denominator. In this word problems carefully notice the denominator of the fraction. Let us see involving fraction of word problems.

Example of involving fraction word problems:

At restaurant, the men ate 41/2 donuts and women ate 5 ½. How many donuts were eaten at restaurant?

**Solution:**

**Given:** men ate 4 ½ donuts, women ate 5 ½ (total number of donuts)

Step 1: we need total number of donuts so here we should add the values

=4 ½ + 5 ½ .

Step 2: This values are improper function so we should convert to proper function.

= (4*2+1 / 2) + (5*2 +1 / 2)

= (9/2 +11/2) (denominate are equals so we can add to values directly)

Step 3: (9+11)/2 = (20 / 2) (simplify)

Step 4: the answer is 10 donuts.

**Example of involving fraction word problem2:**

we bought 6 ¼ paint but we used only 3/2 paint. How much paint do we have left?

**Solution:**

**Given:** 6 1/4 paint, used paint 3/2

Step1: we need left of the paint so we should subtraction the given values.

=6 ¼ – 3/2

Step2: 6 ¼ convert to proper function.

= (6*4+1) / 4 – 3/2

= 25/4 – 3/2

Step3: the denominate are not equal so take LCM.

= 25/4 -3/2 (take common term)

= (25*1) / (4*1) = 25/4 – (3*2)/(2*2) = 6/4

= (25/4) – (6/4) (subtraction)

= 19/4

Step4: left of the paint is 19/4.

**Example involving fraction word problem3:**

My baby is 5 ½ years old. My car is 4 ½ year younger than my baby. How old is my car?

**Solution:**

**Given:** baby years 5 ½ , car years 4 ½

Step 1: we need to find how many years of car.

5 ½ – 4 ½ (subtraction)

Step 2 : convert to proper function.

=(5*2+1)/ 2 – (4*2+1) /2

= (11/2) – (9/2) here denominators are equal so we can add directly.

Step3: (11/2) – (9/2) = (2/2) = 1 (simplify)

Step 4 : The answer is 1 so 1 year different between car and baby.

These are the examples of involving fraction word problems.
